History
Ask an Aalsmeer resident about one of the most striking houses in Aalsmeer and they will mention 'the white house on the Stommeerweg'. In 1913, architect J. Munnink designed this beautiful, characteristic villa. Abraham Wijnberg, a chemist and entrepreneur and inventor of Norit, was the first resident. A remarkable man with a turbulent past, about which much can be read on the website of the Huygens Institute, for example. During the period that Wijnberg resided in the house, his housekeepers lived in the adjacent property.
The house
Across the bridge and through the beautiful front garden, you arrive at the stately entrance. The bay window at the front immediately stands out, as does the balcony above it. Through the porch you enter the hall with stairs to the upper floor and access to the various rooms on the ground floor.
The light and very spacious living room has windows on the side and back. In addition, there is a beautiful bay window at the front of the house with French doors facing the front garden. This is a great multifunctional space. At the rear you have a beautiful view of the deep garden and the Kleine Poel. Changing with every season, it never gets boring! The patio doors connect the terrace to the living room in the summer months, and thanks to the canopy you can enjoy the view even with a little rain.
There is a modern kitchen with luxury built-in appliances and plenty of storage and work space. Adjacent to the kitchen, in the conservatory, is the dining room, which - like the living room - offers a beautiful view of the garden and the water. The back door is also here. In addition to these rooms, there is a toilet, the meter cupboard and a staircase cupboard on the ground floor. A staircase leads to the large cellar, ideal as a pantry, and to the first floor.
The first floor has two spacious bedrooms, located at the front and rear of the house, each with a balcony and built-in wardrobe. There is a third, somewhat smaller bedroom at the front of the house and a spacious bathroom.
The bathroom is a lovely space with not only a shower but also a lovely bathtub, toilet and a wide washbasin unit with double sinks and mirror cabinets. And, cleverly concealed, space for both the washing machine and the dryer. Everything in a grey/white colour scheme and tiles extending up to the ceiling.
On the second floor there are three more bedrooms. The large bedroom at the front has fitted wardrobes. There is also a second bathroom with a shower, washbasin and toilet. A roof terrace is accessible from the landing: A perfect place to end the day with a beautiful view of the water.
The third floor is accessible by a loft ladder and is divided into two large rooms: lots of storage space! The central heating system is also located here.
Garden
The plot has a large back garden facing southwest, which borders the Kleine Poel. Directly behind the house is a large terrace surrounded by flower beds with a spacious lawn at the back. This leads to a second terrace with an adjoining jetty and private harbour, from which you can easily enjoy the Westeinderplassen. There are several moorings for boats, a dinghy jetty and a swimming ladder.
In the back garden, there is also a large shed with carport (newly built in 2011). There is enough space under the carport to park a car and store the containers. The shed offers more than enough space for bicycles. Above the carport and shed there is also a large loft accessible via a loft ladder. Due to the large floor area and the high height (178 cm) the shed offers a lot of easily accessible storage space. Long objects (such as a surfboard or a mast of a sailing boat) can also be placed in the loft via a hatch in the outer wall of the shed. Ideal!
Additionally, you will find ample space on the driveway next to the house to park several cars. The front garden has recently been renovated, resulting in a beautiful appearance.
The location on the southwest, alongside open water and with unobstructed views make this garden a unique place that you can enjoy endlessly!
Aalsmeer
Aalsmeer is conveniently located a short distance from Amsterdam. The city center can be reached in 20 minutes by car. For other cities like Haarlem, Leiden or Utrecht, the A4/A5, ring A10 and A2 highways are also easily accessible. A high-quality public transport connection (R-net) provides a fast connection to the Hoofddorp NS station, the Schiphol circle line (which also has an NS station) and Uithoorn (with a new tram to Amsterdam Station Zuid).
The unique nature and recreation area 'Westeinderplassen' is perhaps the greatest asset of the village. With the Westeinder beach and boulevard, Aalsmeer offers the comfort and all the positive aspects of free living in a village with all urban amenities within easy reach. This makes Aalsmeer a pleasant village to live in, right in the middle of the Randstad.
Aalsmeer has a vibrant community life and an excellent range of shops. The nearest larger shopping centres are in Amstelveen and Hoofddorp, both easily accessible by bike or public transport.
