The apartment building CPO Science Park won the Zuiderkerkprijs in 2019, the Amsterdam architecture award for newly constructed buildings. This urban villa was designed by Atelier van Wengerden and was commissioned by the sixteen apartment owners. Each of the sixteen apartments was completely designed and laid out according to the residents’ own ideas and preferences.
There is a communal area that can be used by the residents, for example, for meetings, working from home, or a party. There is also a communal bicycle garage in addition to each apartment's own storage area.
To ensure that the apartments are comfortable and energy efficient, each apartment is equipped with a heat pump and solar panels on the higher and the lower roof. The apartment has nine own solar panels on the high roof and the large glass surfaces are made of triple glass with a UV filter.
Location
The apartment is located in a unique location in Watergraafsmeer. At the front, there is the road to and from the Amsterdam University Science Park Campus and at the back the Ooster Ringdijk, right across from the entrance to the Flevo Park. This park is a lovely place for walks, sports activities. and recreation. In the summer, you can start the day with a swim in the 50-metre pool of the beautiful Flevo Park swimming pool, or with a refreshing dip in the Nieuwe Diep lake. After work, it is lovely to sit out on the pond-side terrace at the distillery Proeflokaal ’t Nieuwe Diep. You can walk through the park to the lively Javaplein and Javastraat with a wide range of trendy restaurants, shops, and cafés.
At the front of the building to the right, it is only a short walk to an AH XL supermarket and the excellent restaurants and culinary speciality stores on the Hogeweg. In this charming part of Watergraafsmeer, you will find excellent butchers, wine shops, an artisan bakery and cosy sidewalk cafés on street corners and tree-lined squares.
If you walk in the other direction, you will run into the popular café restaurant Polder, in a former city farm on the Science Park campus, which is rapidly becoming a vibrant hotspot. You can practice sports at the Universum, get a drink at Oerknal, or enjoy a cup of coffee in Start-up Village and walk through Anna's garden and wilderness. You can also visit SustainaLab, with on the ground floor a sustainable restaurant with a large terrace and on the top floor a roof-top bar.
The accessibility of the apartment is excellent. The Amsterdam Science Park train station is only a 10-minute walk. Busses to this station and to the Amstel Station and the Muiderpoort Station stop at 200 metres from the apartment building’s front door. At the corner, you can catch the bus to Station Zuid. By car, you can drive from your own private parking place at the back of the building to the A10 Ring Road within 5 minutes.
Layout
You can access the apartment on the third floor via the communal stairway or the lift. Entrance/hallway, living room with custom-made open kitchen equipped with all necessary built-in appliances (including Neff) and kitchen island with sink and dinner table section. The ceiling height of 2.83m and the many windows with a view of the roof garden create a lovely spacious feeling. There is a south-facing balcony of 4.33m x 3.16m. The apartment has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The master bedroom is equipped with built-in cabinets and its own bathroom with a walk-in shower, bath, double sink, and WC.
