Location:
The Silodam, which serves as a breakwater, is located in the Western harbor area. The approximately 300 meter long breakwater juts out into the IJ. Along the Silodam are two former grain silos that now serve as apartment buildings, including the Stone Silo, a national monument. The Silodam apartment building from 2002 is also located here, a well-known example of modern architecture along the banks of the IJ in Amsterdam. The Houthavens are located along the western side of the Silodam and a three meter wide wooden sidewalk has been laid over the entire length of the dam, the boardwalk.
