Around 6 years ago I was looking to buy an apartment in Leiden to make it my new home. When I viewed Morellenweg 29, I immediately realized this was almost my dream place: it was a centrally located but quiet neighborhood, well connected by public transport, a balcony and a large sliding door facing south and, most importantly, an amazing view over water and greenery.
I said ‘almost‘ my dream place because some work was required to modernize it, which I did with great care. I layed a new floor, installed a new kitchen, removed the old wallpaper and painted the walls. The kitchen in particular, installed in 2021, was selected with functionality and elegance in mind. It has ample storage space, including 4 big drawers, while the appliances have a total of 8 years of warranty, thus they are covered until April 2029. Any ensuing issue, from a dripping tap to a broken window blind were quickly resolved. In short, it is a modernized and well maintained place.
Later on my girlfriend moved in with me. The two of us had a good time here and the place served us well. We both find the location ideal, with shops (Luifelbaan) and supermarkets, including AH XL, within walking distance. Leiden Lammenschans train station and a number of bus lines are within walking distance, making car ownership optional. The Leiden city center and market is a few minutes away by bike. Polderpark Cronesteyn is nearby for a relaxing walk or a run. All you can ask for is nearby.
We had a lot of fun having friends over for a meal: enjoying discussions while one is cooking and the rest are seated on the couch; the semi-open kitchen facilitates this. We enjoyed the sunshine through the balcony door or at the balcony as well as numerous colorful sunsets. On a warm day with windows open, the only sound that reaches the ears are the voices of kids playing at the park underneath and the birds splashing into the water. Sounds ideal, right?
Down to earth, we find the layout of the apartment very practical. There are two good sized and shaped rooms, one serving as our bedroom and the other as a home office for both of us. The storage room in the apartment can accommodate the washing machine and still have enough space for other items. Heating costs are relatively low as the insulation is good and the south/west orientation allows a shining sun to warm up the place. Last, but not least, we have great neighbors and a well functioning VvE, taking good care of building maintenance and planning sustainability measures. I became a member of the VvE board to help with these goals.
Despite all our apartment has to offer, we eventually need a larger place, a house with a garden. We found one and now we have to say a very emotional goodbye to this wonderful place. We hope it finds a new owner that will appreciate and enjoy all it has to offer!
