Description
Nijetrijne Veendijk 5
Live freely in a former miller’s house on open water at the edge of the De Rottige Meente nature reserve, on a plot of over 2.5 hectares.
In a unique location on open water, at the edge of the De Rottige Meente nature reserve, stands this former miller’s house. Originally associated with the nearby “De Rietvink” mill, this house, consisting of a front house, a rear extension, a sleeping area, and the barn, has been expanded over the past decades into a delightful family or holiday home in an exceptionally beautiful location. Here, you are one with nature. The bike path that runs past the mill and the house is a popular cycling and walking route through the De Rottige Meente nature reserve, a favorite destination for nature lovers and bird watchers.
To reach Veendijk 5, visitors walk along the Helomavaart to the miller’s house, which can be seen from afar next to the mill. Here, most things are done on foot, by bike, or by boat. Cars can be parked in the spacious parking lot at the bridge over the Helomavaart in Munnekeburen. From there, it is about 800 meters of cycling, walking, or boating to the house, through the beautiful nature reserve. Owners and residents can park next to the house, but the idea is to use the car as little as possible. The surroundings are peaceful, with only the sounds of nature and the picturesque view of the peatlands, reed beds, and the Helomavaart.
Miller’s House
The property consists of no fewer than five parts. On the dike side are the white miller’s house and the white barn, connected by a box-shaped entrance. At the rear right is the barn with the characteristic thatched roof, and against the rear of the miller’s house is a large extension with a terrace. The whole is charming and equipped with all conveniences. This is not a place for excess, but a place where 'less is more' sets the atmosphere.
The property has 5 bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, dining room, large barn, laundry room, and a bathroom. The view at the back is breathtaking, with reed beds and the green landscape in the distance. The front house offers a cozy living space with a kitchen and dining room, while the rear house provides ample space for four bedrooms, a bathroom, and the spacious barn. The barn is used for storage and workspace and includes a pool table and table tennis table. There are many possibilities for other uses here.
This miller’s house offers a unique opportunity to live in a place surrounded by nature. It is a perfect balance between rural tranquility and proximity to important amenities and the city. Come and discover the charm and versatility of this special place, with the De Rottige Meente nature reserve on one side and the open water of the Helomavaart on the other. Veendijk 5 offers a combination of tranquility, nature, and excellent connections to the surrounding waters of Friesland and the Weerribben.
Layout
Through the entrance, you enter the house and immediately have a beautiful view of the overwhelming nature and the phenomenal view at the back. To the left is the access to the bedrooms and the rear barn, more on that later. To the right is the former miller’s house. Through a hallway, you enter the living room, a cozy space with paneling, a beamed ceiling, and a wooden floor. This is really a place to unwind. The cheerful light blue and light green colors and the large stove complete the picture.
At the rear is the cozy dining room, located in the extension. This is a place to enjoy meals together, long evenings, and conviviality. The French doors give access to the terrace at the back.
Next to the dining room is the kitchen, a square space with kitchen units and appliances on both sides.
In the living room, there is access to the upper attic. Here is a cozy bedroom, finished with paneling.
From the entrance, you can go left to the sleeping wing, where there are four bedrooms of varying sizes. There is a large bedroom and three smaller bedrooms. Additionally, there is a large simple bathroom with double sinks, a bathtub, and a shower. There is also a room where the laundry equipment is located.
At the back is the barn of the former farmhouse. A beautiful large space where the thatched roof with the wooden trusses is fully visible. This is one of the highlights of this special place. There are many possibilities here to create a great living space, with a kitchen and views of nature.
Outdoors
What is unique about this place is that the house is located by water on both the front and back sides. At the front, the Veendijk runs along the house with the bike path and the Helomavaart, a waterway that forms an important connection between various Frisian lakes and the Weerribben-Wieden National Park. The Veendijk runs along the water and offers a beautiful view of the surrounding nature. The dike not only functions as protection against flooding but is also an important element of the historical landscape of the region. The Helomavaart is ideal for water recreation, such as boating, canoeing, and fishing. There is a dock by the canal with space for a boat.
At the rear lies the beautiful De Rottige Meente nature reserve, a protected nature area known for its rich biodiversity and breathtaking beauty. This area consists of peat bogs, reed beds, and open water, and is home to a variety of birds, plants, and other animals. It is a popular destination for walkers, cyclists, and bird watchers. It is particularly notable that this former miller’s house includes almost 2.5 hectares of its own land with characteristic reed land, shrubs, and water. The freedom here is immense, as the water and reed lands are also part of this estate.

Sustainability from G-Label to a better-Label
Redres loves special objects, monuments, and industrial heritage. These buildings, like this lovely house, have unique needs in terms of maintenance and sustainability. Due to their age, such objects are already sustainable from a circularity perspective, but they are often not sustainable in use, and there is still a lot of progress to be made in that area. This also applies to this property.
Sustainability Label®
To guide you as a buyer, we have had a so-called Sustainability Label® established in addition to the regular energy label. This is advice on how the object can be made more sustainable, including a scenario for how this beautiful house can be brought from its current ??-label to a ??-label, and with what investment that would be associated. The most effective and efficient sustainability solutions have been considered.
When selling and buying such a unique object, and the subsequent restoration or renovation, are the best times to take sustainability measures. The Sustainability Label® is a good guide to making an informed purchasing decision. This property certainly has room to be made more sustainable, and the first step has already been taken; we have had a scan of the house made, and we are happy to make it available to you.
