HISTORY
The Zwarte Water, a small river that ran from the vicinity of Hollandsche Rading to the Oude Gracht, used to run here. Along here, farmers from that area transported their goods to the city of Utrecht. The Zwarte Water has been canalised here, creating a wide green strip. Zwarte Water 43 formed a Farmhouse (no. 42) with coupled house (no. 43) with Zwarte Water 42 in the 19th century. When the ‘Garden District’ was built, this farm lost all its land and the two houses in question continued as residential houses. What remains of this history is the wide green strip, the beautiful mill Rijn en Zon and a sluice that regulated the difference in level between the Zwarte Water and the Oude Gracht.
