Description
NIEUW! Rare, Quirky and Nostalgic. What a unique opportunity this is. One of the most special and attractive homes is now offered for sale in an almost hidden location on the old ribbon development of Doctor Baumannplein and the historic IJsteeg (with several classic dike and workers' houses). This spacious 2-1 detached house with private front garden has a special layout with several rooms on the ground floor, with the attractive and cozy kitchen-diner in the center. On the first floor there are 3 good bedrooms and a spacious storage attic. At the rear, the house opens onto the IJsteeg and this is also where the recently renovated outbuilding (2 floors) is located. This outbuilding can be used as an independent living studio, office/studio or Airbnb. The monumental IJsteeg is a unique part of Halfweg. In addition to a wonderful place to live, you become part of a piece of history:
“Patriots
After the victory of the Geuzen, the Netherlands became a republic, in which the House of Orange played an important role. Under the influence of the French Enlightenment, a movement emerged in the Netherlands, the Patriots. They wanted more freedom and were very critical of Stadtholder Willem V. The Stadtholder's wife, Wilhelmina of Prussia, was arrested by Patriots in Goejanverwellesluis in 1787. She was so angry about this that she called on her brother, the King of Prussia, to help defeat the Patriots. He sent the Duke of Brunswick for this purpose.
This conquered several cities in the Netherlands. Amsterdam was the last stronghold of the Patriots. Cannons were placed at Halfweg, as an advanced defensive stronghold against the Prussians. To no avail, the Patriots had to flee through the IJsteeg.”

In short: The current owners pass on the house with love!
The location:
The village of Halfweg is a wonderful place to live and enjoy with lots of freedom and greenery around you, but you can also reach the hustle and bustle of the city within 10 minutes (approx. 9 minutes by train to the heart of Amsterdam or Haarlem). The nearby Spaarnwoude Bos has a wide variety of sports options (Golf, Horse Riding, Climbing, Swimming, Cycling Track, Indoor Ski Track, etc.). The shops and other important facilities are about a 5-minute walk across the bridge in Zwanenburg and the highways to Amsterdam and Haarlem are close by. Within walking distance you will also find some well-regarded restaurants (many with terraces on the water) and a few nice bars. In 2020, the doors of the 'thestyle outlets' opened on the former site of the Sugar Factory, where you will find luxury clothing stores and the necessary catering establishments. This is just a 5-minute walk
