Description
Surprising gem in the Twente landscape: Here, tranquility, liveliness, and rural life are mentioned in one breath.
Is it the location? The history? Is it the sea of light and space, the clever layout, the breathtaking view, or the total peace? Truly, everything about this villa in Twente is surprising. Here, history and future go hand in hand. But the rolling landscape and urban charm are also no strangers to each other. Views of the old trees, the greenery, and yet in the midst of liveliness; perhaps that is the secret of this very special country house.
The story begins when you arrive at Borgmanweg in no time from the highway. The entrance gate swings open, and we walk to the front door. Come in, welcome to this unique location in Hengelo. And unique it is. In the midst of greenery and yet very close to all amenities. Children can independently cycle to primary school or to friends. A safe environment, with a child-friendly residential area just out of sight. Not only that is very close by, an excellently equipped shopping center is just a few minutes by bike. Two supermarkets, clothing stores, a store with local products, and a fishmonger. And that's just the beginning.
Urban charm
The shopping heart of Hengelo is just as quickly accessible as the center of Enschede or Oldenzaal. The university, the recreation lake “Het Hulsbeek” nature reserves, Twente airport, everything is within a fifteen-minute reach. And Deurningen, with its renowned garden center Borghuis and the famous local shop and experience farm Kaamps, is literally just around the corner. Two turns of the pedals, and you're having a high tea with friends in the brasserie on the estate. How is this possible, all at once?
Living kitchen with fantastic loft
Inside, you'll be amazed at every turn. After hanging up the coat in one of the many custom-made closets in the luxurious entrance, we turn to the left. There is the living kitchen, which is already sufficient for hours of pleasant stay at the delightful dining table. With the newspaper, a cup of tea, or a nice glass and a platter of snacks with friends. Or simply enjoy the first rays of sunshine, which even come from above. The kitchen has a fantastic loft, partially utilizing the entire height of the villa. It has been so well thought out that it almost becomes natural.
Child-safe
In the kitchen, you have a view of the green fenced backyard through the double garden doors. On the other side, the gaze through the double garden doors falls on the front yard, and beyond a friendly hedge, a vista begins that is endless, showcasing the Twente landscape at its best.
The kitchen is the warm, beating heart of the villa. Behind the sleek natural stone kitchen island, you can keep an eye on children playing in the garden. Nice, but at the same time, you know they can never leave the garden. Everything is fenced. Even pets cannot escape the garden. In the summer, the garden doors open wide, and it's delightful to dine at the long outdoor table on the terrace. A little further, the garden house, constructed of black wooden siding, beckons. There, on the very tip of this spacious plot, the evening sun falls precisely on the porch.
That fireplace, the staircase...
The cozy living room can be both closed off and connected to the living kitchen. Today, the double doors are open, and we embark on a tour of the villa, which later turns out to be quite literally a circle. The living room embodies yet another contrast. Everything is new, but we are indeed in the oldest part of the mansion. It was built in 1961, but only the interior walls have actually remained. Everywhere, underfloor heating, air conditioning, and sustainable ingenuity. Fortunately, the authentic appearance has been preserved, along with the beautiful original details. In the living room, the wood fire crackles cheerfully. The delightful corner sofa has a choice: facing the fireplace or perhaps an evening of Netflix?
Lounge corner
We admire the garden-oriented room where the possibilities are endless. Children can endlessly craft there, but it is also the place for a pleasant Sunday afternoon with a magazine or a good conversation. Then on to the hall, where the front door only opens for the few who are not familiar here. The authentic staircase has been carefully restored. A nod to 1961 when the mansion could still be called a home. A chic carpet leads us to the upper floor.
Luxurious bathroom with whirlpool
Upstairs are two bedrooms that share a balcony. Here, shutters keep the sunlight out on warm days. The bathroom is a beauty. Sleek, stylish, and high-quality design sanitary ware. Truly, everything has been considered. The whirlpool accommodates two. Relaxing, but where do you direct your gaze? The view of the green meadows is breathtaking. Add some music, seamlessly integrated into the wall. Or maybe it's the TV because that's there too. A quick shower, another option. The double showers are cleverly concealed behind the freestanding wall where the sinks also hang. And that's just the first bathroom...
In keeping with the style
Let's move on to the new part of the villa, completed in 2014, entirely in style. We enter through a broad landing that could easily be called a dressing room. A panel door leads to the loft above the living kitchen. A small library is arranged on the loft. Here, you can cozy up in one of the two armchairs with your favorite book. Alone for a moment, but not lonely, as the connection to the kitchen is still there.
Dresser with mirrors
This broad landing also features custom-made cabinets and mirrors for your morning routine. Bedroom one is a surprise. Not because of its size, but that height... The second door leads to a laundry room where up to three machines can run simultaneously. A washer-dryer combo, a washing machine, and a dryer. Convenient, and the laundry is done in no time. The ironing board is placed by the window. With this view, ironing is absolutely not a chore.
Master bedroom with expansive view
Now, the master bedroom. The bed is specially designed for this space. With the remote control, the large TV descends into the footboard, making room for the view that is absolutely captivating. From top to bottom, the facade is made of glass. Pure enjoyment when you wake up in the morning. The master bedroom is connected to the private bathroom. Bathroom number one may have a whirlpool, but this one is no less luxurious. And we haven't even mentioned the beautiful niches in the wall of the shower area. By the way, the shower streams here not only from above but also from the side. Another choice that guarantees pure enjoyment. Now, let's talk about the en-suite dressing area. Beautiful wall coverings have been chosen here as well, just as original as in other spaces.
Floating staircase
We take the second staircase down – it seems to be floating due to the glass balustrades – to end up in the entrance where we were welcomed in the mansion. We hadn't seen the bathroom here yet. It's yet another surprise of this villa. Exceptionally spacious, featuring not only the designer toilet but also, on the other side, a urinal.
Luxurious office and bar
Have we seen everything? We thought we had, but here is where it actually begins. Next to the entrance is the spacious office with a custom-made desk and cabinet combination. The third door in the hallway leads to a particularly charming space. A cozy and trendy bar. This bar with a beer tap and (wine) refrigerators is impressive. But the seating steals the show. They wouldn't be out of place in a Michelin-starred restaurant, yet they are also inviting. Perfect for evenings of games, Christmas with the whole family, birthdays, children's parties, or just a spontaneous evening. In the summer, the outdoor door of the bar can be opened, allowing guests to step into the garden.
Multifunctional garage
Indoor play is also an option. From the bar, the enormous indoor garage – also with underfloor heating – is a great option. The cars have plenty of space there, but they are currently parked outside. Roller skates in the closet and a ping pong table reveal what children can use the garage for...
Basement with multiple possibilities
The tour could easily end here. But back in the bar, there is yet another door. It leads to a spacious basement. The space below currently serves as a cool storage area. The current residents have considered turning it into a cinema. However, that is reserved for the next fortunate owners of this unique villa. A villa where everything is just right. A delightful country house that has entered into a beautiful marriage with the Twente landscape. A perfect match in heaven.
