Description
Monumental farmhouse located on the Oude Rijn on a spacious plot with lots of privacy.
The old village center of Leiderdorp, with its many historic buildings, still exudes the atmosphere of the time when Leiderdorp was just a small village on the dike along the Oude Rijn. This characteristic former farmhouse is hidden behind an old garden wall at this historic location, diagonally opposite the former tower where an English king was imprisoned for years in the Middle Ages.
The house has a spacious garden, enclosed by a wall with an entrance gate on the Hoofdstraat side and an entrance gate on the Jaagpad side. There are several seating areas in the garden and its unobstructed location means you can seek out the sun or shade at different times of the day. In addition to the detached shed and a storage space for bicycles, there is a greenhouse for growing your own vegetables, such as tomatoes.
There is a strip of land on the Rhine with room for a small seat, where on a hot day you can enjoy the cooling effect of the water flowing past and watch the boats sail by. Here the house once had a different facade with a grand front door in the middle and two windows with shutters on either side. Friends with a boat can easily moor here to join them for a drink or to pick you up for a trip. In ten minutes you are in the middle of the historic city center of Leiden or in the polder and meadow area of ??the Groene Hart.
Inside, time almost seems to have stood still. The downstairs layout is still classic with a separate sitting room and dining room, a country kitchen with utility room and a study/hobby room with an upstairs room and box bed above the basement. Fortunately, the high beamed ceilings and the classic elements in the kitchen have been preserved. Upstairs, in the insulated roof construction, there are four spacious bedrooms and two bathrooms, with many playful and original details and corners. Many details have been preserved, as can be seen in the old photos that we have found.
The house is designated as a national monument. This brings many advantages in terms of subsidies for, among other things, sustainability, both from the government and the municipality. We would be happy to provide further explanation about this during a viewing.
