Short review:
It was a pleasure dealing with Doen makelaars. We were satisfied with their service and advice. When you're an English speaker living abroad, it can be very difficult to find and buy a house in the Netherlands; however, our Doen makelaars advisor, Jean, made the process seamless and enjoyable. If you are looking for house hunting advice or services in the Leiden, Hague or Zoetermeer area, we highly recommend Jean from Doen makelaars.
Long review:
Our contact with Doen makelaars came from a website called Juiste Makelaars, which recommends real estate agents based on your needs.
After speaking with many suggested makelaars, Jean from Doen makelaarss stood out for us.
The reason is:
• Having been in business since 1991, Jean understands the market and areas very well.
• Jean took the time to get to know who we are as well as to understand what our specific requirements are, followed by explaining the process of buying the house transparently and very clearly with no hidden cost.
As a result, we signed up with Jean and entered into an exclusivity agreement with Doen makelaarss, whereby we have to pay the cost at notary only when the house purchase is completed.
Jean created a move nl account for us and a Whatsapp group where we can discuss house search topics easily.
Jean and I saw many houses together. As we viewed the house, Jean was extremely vigilant from a technical and area standpoint and gave us thoughtful and honest advice that helped us make our decision.
Furthermore, Jean suggested how to prepare a bid so that we would have a better chance of getting the house.
Honestly, because of his wise advice we got the house, and even the seller acknowledged that the bid was prepared in such a way that it appeared very attractive to him during the transfer process.
Additionally, Jean advised about the notary (since we had no idea where the transfer could take place) and accompanied us to the notary.
Here are some other things we like about Jean from Doen makelaarss
• Jean is a very patient guy who listens well and takes the time to explain anything to you with all his wisdom and experience. As the contract was very long and very technical, Jean once explained it line by line in English, giving us a lot of confidence.
• Because we don't have a car in the Netherlands, he also offered to drive me around so we could see the houses efficiently. He is not required to do so.
• Additionally, Jean told me once while viewing a house that the house and the area did not seem safe. For example, once we viewed a house in Hague, Jean told me that the area was unsafe for expats, stating that if you were considering the house, you should take into account crime and living conditions.
The whole experience was very satisfactory for us in terms of advice and assistance during our house hunt as expats, with very clear service costs and procedures.
