The Kadijken were completed in 1663, during which land outside the dike on the east side of Amsterdam was incorporated into the city. There was a summer dike in the area, the Nieuwe Zeedijk, which was constructed outside the Sint Antoniesdijk. In the fourth explanation, the dike was further raised and the high part was called Hoogte Kadijk, while the low part behind it was called Laagte Kadijk (source: Wikipedia).
The Plantagebuurt/Kadijkenbuurt is known for its tranquility, friendly and cozy atmosphere and its good restaurants and cafés such as Brouwerij 't IJ, Restaurant Elkaar, Italian A Tavola and the favorite pub for many in the neighborhood: café Orloff.
