Description
With a history dating back to 1632, this national monument is a unique building packed with character. The warehouse served as a secret church during the Reformation in the 17th century and it is best known to many residents of Zutphen as the place where Café De Schatkamer was located. Now you get the rare opportunity to become the owner of this very spacious property (1766 m³) with space to live, work and express artistic creativity.
The imposing staircase comes from a French castle and many other elements also have a story. On the outside you can find decorative anchors in the shape of a lily. The same decorative anchors can be found on four other buildings in Zutphen and are the trademark of the then blacksmith. The year is proudly displayed on the exterior facade, where many details in the brickwork are visible.
This warehouse is located in the beautiful center of Zutphen, on the Laarstraat, which is a one-way road for cars. The many shops, specialty stores, restaurants, supermarkets and entertainment venues are a few minutes' walk away. If you are in love with Zutphen and especially with the historic center, then this is a unique opportunity...
Layout:
Ground floor:
What used to be the café is now an impressive space of over 16 meters long. The height, partly over two floors, can also be called special. Thick wooden beams, large windows and the long staircase are some elements that immediately catch your eye. This also applies to the wooden floor, the fixed bench near the window frame and the wall tiles where a stove used to be. In the rear part there is a portal with toilet group, a storage room and a kitchen area.
Cellar:
It may take some searching, but this warehouse has two cellars for storing wine and other products.
First floor:
Walk over the castle stairs to the first floor, with a storage room at the rear and a potential bedroom/office at the front. Thanks to the loft, a lot of light enters through the large window at the front and here it is possible to admire the thick wooden beams in full glory.
Second floor:
One floor higher you arrive at a full-fledged residential floor with a living room, kitchen, bedroom, compact bathroom and an indoor (bed)room. You will see a wooden floor, beautiful interior doors and other beautiful elements on almost the entire floor.
The living room with side room is located at the front, spanning the entire width of the building. In a central location, between the sitting and dining areas, you will see an elegant mantelpiece with built-in fireplace and a gas fireplace in the corner of the side room.
The spacious kitchen has a bright wall unit with a gas hob, extractor hood, oven and refrigerator. This space requires a new interpretation according to your own taste. The adjacent bathroom with shower and toilet can be reached via a portal. The bedroom at the rear is, just like the indoor (bed)room, large enough for a double bed.
Third floor:
For lovers of architecture and history, the third floor is a place not to be forgotten. The wooden roof construction and the lifting installation of the warehouse provide a space with a unique atmosphere. Considering the space available, creating multiple bedrooms, a guesthouse, studio or office loft is quite possible. And if you look out the front and rear, you can admire Zutphen from a great height...
Garden:
At the rear of the warehouse there is a charming, fully paved garden with a roof. Previously, this space was also used by visitors to De Schatkamer. Imagine yourself sitting here, with a view of the beautiful rear facade...
